Welcome to the Spring term of LeBlanc School of Acting! We hope you’re ready for a wild ride, with our strongest term yet. This Spring, it’s all about The WILD CARDS!
A wild card is an unknown or unpredictable factor that plays into a situation. You are often caught by complete surprise, and must muster up all of your senses and skills to face it head on. Wild cards can be sneaky, silly, exciting, and even nerve-wracking. Some work out in your favour, and others demand perseverance and resilience. One thing is always true: drawing era a wild card is always out of your hands.
So why have a whole term of wild cards? So much of the acting industry is unpredictable! You may be dealt a desired outcome one week, and be thrown a complete curveball the next. No matter how organized you are, or how well you plan out your acting journey, there will always be a twist you didn’t expect. An opportunity in the form of a surprise. And the actors that are ready to embrace the unknown rise to the top. So this Spring, we are tackling a term full of eight wild cards to keep us on our acting toes. Trust us when we say, it’s going to be an unforgettable term!
We’ve shuffled the deck on the Spring term. You’ll be dealt a new card every week, and we’ll be exploring a new technique each class. Embrace the wild unknown as we get into a powerful term, LeBlancers. Let’s deal the cards and hit start on Week 1!

We are our students' biggest fans; we love seeing them perform and use their skills. At L.S.A., we tell our students that taking videos and pictures of yourself in performance or while practicing is a great tool to go back and reflect on your abilities. However, we hold a strong stance on maintaining a respectful environment, and to that end, no recording of full classes is permitted at LeBlanc.
Parents may only record their child during class when it is their turn to perform, and they hear the word "Action!" and stop when they hear the word "Cut!". Feedback and instruction are not to be filmed and shared.
Our school is built on our unique approach to teaching, and many of the techniques we share in class are exclusive to LeBlanc. We believe that all our students learn in a safe, comfortable, and engaging way. By doing so, our students have an atmosphere for optimal learning and skill retention!
Although we all know you are online learning professionals at this point, we just want to make sure everyone is in the loop with our key virtual acting class etiquette:
Our class time is valuable, and we want to make sure our students have conducive learning environments and are ready when the clock strikes. To ensure our students have the best experience possible, LeBlanc School of Acting has a strict 'Late Policy'.
Our Late Policy means that if you are more than 10 minutes late, you will unfortunately not be allowed to participate in class and will not be let in from the Zoom waiting room.
At LeBlanc, we work hard to create exciting class plans coordinated to class time. By being late, our students lose out on key elements and education while disrupting the class flow and learning of others.
Our team is always open to working with unexpected schedule changes or appointments; they just need to be made aware ahead of time. If your child will be late, please email admin@leblancschool.com to let us know in advance.
WEEK 8: Sibling Showdown
It’s a full house!
It’s Performance Week!
This week, you’ll be performing a scene audition-style. Read on for required prep and your script.
What a wild and wonderful term it’s been, Little LeBlancers! You’ve been dealt eight exceptional wild cards, and played strong hands of technique week after week. Now it’s time to go all in and finish with a full house! We couldn’t be more proud! Let’s deal the final wild card of our Spring term: sibling showdown!
For our final class, we will be playing someone with a sibling! How many of YOU have siblings? Whether you’re an only child, or one of many, we’re ALL going to learn to play one in a script.
Why we dealt this card:
Talking with a sibling in a scene is one of the most common types of scripts and auditions out there. Sibling relationships are filled with so much history, emotion, and behaviour patterns! So let’s tackle all of this in a comedy script, and end the term with a wild celebration! Show all your cards for week 8, Little LeBlancers, we did it!
This week is performance week. Our expectations of all students are outlined below.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR PERFORMANCE WEEK:
As a young actor, being prepared is being professional—so printing out the script 10 minutes before class is not enough. In order to get the most out of class, please follow the following notes. Preparing for performance week includes some essential components:
1) Learning your lines. You should be comfortable (ideally off-script / memorized) with all of the dialogue;
2) Blocking scene action (or movement) in a non-distracting, simple way for the camera;
3) Understanding what is happening in the scene, who your character is, and what they want most of all; and
4) Dress to suggest the character—just like you would for a real audition!

WEEK 7: Swiping Away Negativity
And subscribing to positivity!
This week we’re swiping into the world of public comments as it relates to actors. Get ready for the next wild card, Little LeBlancers: swiping away negativity.
In the entertainment industry, an actor is a public figure, even the young ones, and that role often comes with public opinions and comments, both online and in person. Online, many young actors have parent-led accounts on social media, and while it can be a fantastic way to show off set photos and follow your favourite actors, it sometimes comes with some unwelcome feedback. When you get to work on movies and tv shows, people start to notice, and sometimes, negative comments can also pop up in person, in places like school. When that happens, we must find ways to keep us feeling positive!
Why we dealt this card:
In this industry, you must learn to move past negative comments you encounter both online and offline. So this week, we’ll explore all the ways we can swipe past the negativity, and re-post confidence and encouragement!
Please come to class with your positive spirits fired up, as we say “NO HATERS!” and follow the road to positivity. You don’t want to miss this class, Little LeBlancers!

WEEK 6: Questions and Statements
Did someone ask a question?
Time to flip, flip, flip through the deck, for Week 6’s wild card! We can’t wait to see what the cards have in store for our next class. Turn that top card over to reveal our wild card for the week: questions and statements.
What’s the difference between a statement and a question? Sometimes a character in a scene is asking a question, and sometimes they are making a statement. Both of these things have a big impact on how we say our lines, and the expressions we need when we say them. So we’ve got to learn the difference!
Why we dealt this card:
Sometimes it’s obvious in a script whether a character is asking a question or making a statement, so we’ll learn to notice punctuation (another big word!). Every little actor needs to know if you are asking someone a question, and if you need an answer from someone else in a scene. When we know these things, we can match the mood of a scene. We are here to help you this week, LittleLeBlancers!
This week is going to be a challenge, no question about it! Or maybe a question or two … come to class ready to explore statements and questions this week! Let’s dive into Week 6!

WEEK 5: Empowerment vs. Defeatedness
Flip, don’t flop, between characters!
Welcome back from the break, Little LeBlancers! The cards are still here, waiting for the next big shuffle! And it’s time to do just that! What wild card will this week have in store? Are you ready? Here we go!
Today you’re dealt the card of empowerment vs. defeatedness. Wow, those are big words, aren’t they! Empowerment is when we feel encouraged to do something. Maybe that means to stand up to a bully. It can also mean feeling confident and proud of who we are. To feel defeated means we feel like we have lost something. We can feel defeated when we don’t get what we want, even when we tried our best.
Why we dealt this card:
When we’re acting, our characters can feel empowered and defeated, too. This week we’ll be comparing two characters: one who feels empowered, and one who feels defeated. And we’re going to flip through them, to show we can play with lots of emotions! Get ready for some scenarios that will have us flipping…and not flopping… through emotions!
You’ll receive these scenarios on the spot in class, but don’t worry, Little LeBlancers, we’ll work through them together! See you back in class!

WEEK 4: THE LIP-SYNC TEST
Mouthing messages must still be motivated!
It’s Performance Week!
This week, you’ll be performing a scene audition-style. Read on for required prep and your script.
We cannot believe it’s already been four weeks, and we are halfway through the Spring term. Yes, we’ll say it…it’s WILD! We couldn’t be more proud with how much you’ve worked Little LeBlancers, and as we watch those cards shuffling, we can't help but wonder what will be next! Hold on, is the dealer saying something? We can’t quite hear, but their lips are moving, hmm…
Today you are dealt the card of the lip-sync test. That means mouthing words that still need to be readable on camera, even though they aren’t spoken with sound. It’s about to get FUN, Little LeBlancers!
Why we dealt this card:
This occurs a lot in scripts, and actors struggle with it. How do you mouth words that need to be understood without feeling goofy, or accidentally speaking, or hiding the meaning? Let’s try it out, as we perform a short script!
This week is performance week. Our expectations of all students are outlined below.

WEEK 3: Let’s get “Back” to it
Get ready for some physicality!
We hope you’ve had a restful break, Little LeBlancers, and are ready for more wild cards! We certainly are, and look! Another card has just been dealt.
Let’s pull it out in 3…2…1!Today you’ve been dealt the card of let’s get “BACK” to it. What do we mean by that? We’re talking about your back, of course! That's right: your strong muscles and physical body can help your character's emotions! Think about how a proud character sits, stands, or moves. How about an exhausted character?
Why we dealt this card:
Actors often forget that emotions are connected to our body language, and can you believe they actually forget to use their bodies? Not us, Little LeBlancers! This week, it’s all about technique and exercises that bring our physical bodies and our emotions to the front…and back!
Please set yourself up in a space where you can sit, stand, and move with your full body. It’s going to be a fun one, Little LeBlancers, as we get “back” to the term!

WEEK 2: THE MAZE OF TACTICS
Get ready for an action-packed, fan-TACTIC class!
Welcome back to Week 2, Little LeBlancers! Our deck has another wild card to pull!
Today you’re dealt the card of the maze of tactics. It’s a week that’s about to get action-packed, as we discover what a character does with their behaviour and their words that give them energy and power. They use tactics, and wow, are they important!
A tactic is a strategy, or a game plan, that a character uses to push them closer to what they want. Do they need to get inside a castle? Maybe they climb a wall, beg a guard, or trick a servant. Climbing, begging, and tricking are tactics, also called strong action words.
Why we dealt this card:
Actors need strong tactics in order to have strong performances. And the best part? Exploring tactics is fun! There are so many exciting and strong words out there, Little LeBlancers! And this week, we are exploring them in all their glory!
We’ll race you to class and jump into another wild and wonderful week!
HOLIDAY CLOSURE:
You’ve been going “all in” during the first two weeks of the term, and we couldn’t be more proud, Little LeBlancers! It’s time to regroup and reshuffle, as we take a short break. Our offices will be closed from Monday, May 11 - Monday, May 18, inclusive, as our Canadian team celebrates the holiday.

WEEK 1: POWERFUL PRESENCE
Show up with confidence and pride!
Welcome to your first week of the Spring term, Little LeBlancers! The cards are shuffled, and it’s time to play! The cards are shuffled, and it’s time to play! We can’t wait to see what Week 1 has in store for us, so let’s get right to it with our first wild card.
Today you’re dealt the card of powerful presence. Being present means understanding and feeling happy about where you are right now. Maybe you’ve never tried acting before, and this is something new. Maybe you’ve had a few auditions, or maybe you’ve even been on set before! Wherever you are is special and deserves celebration. Everyone has things to learn!
Why we dealt this card:
As actors, we need to be positive about our abilities and celebrate where we are at in our own acting journey. So let’s learn how to channel powerful presence in class this week!In our first class, we’ll be working through engaging and enthusiastic activities that bring out powerful presence.
