Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

LeBlanc School of Acting wants every young performer, parent, instructor and visitor to be able to use this website, whatever their ability. The standard we are working to is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

We are not there yet on every page, and this statement says exactly where. We would rather tell you what is still broken than claim a level of conformance we have not tested for. Everything below is based on measurements taken on August 13, 2026, not on intentions.

What works today

These have been checked across the whole site, on a desktop screen and on a phone screen:

  • You can see where you are when using a keyboard. We put keyboard focus on 1,726 buttons, links and form fields and every single one showed a visible outline.
  • A skip to content link is the first thing you reach with the keyboard on every page, so you can jump past the menu.
  • Every visible form field has a label that a screen reader reads out, so you are told what each box is for.
  • Page structure is clean. Every page has one main heading, one main content region, and the page language is set so screen readers use the right pronunciation.
  • Motion respects your settings. If your device is set to reduce motion, the animations do not play, and the home page video is not loaded at all.
  • The home page video can be paused using a labelled button next to the sound control. It starts muted and never plays sound on its own.
  • Nothing needs a mouse hover to work. Anything you can reach with a mouse you can reach with a keyboard.
  • No third party embeds. Our booking, forms and member area are built in house rather than dropped in from another company, so we are not relying on someone else's code to be accessible.
  • Most text meets the contrast minimum of 4.5 to 1 for normal text and 3 to 1 for large text. The exceptions are listed below by name.

What does not meet the standard yet

Colour contrast on some brand colours

This is our biggest remaining gap and it is honest to be specific about it. WCAG asks for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 for normal size text and 3 to 1 for large text. The following fall short:

  • The JOIN US button in the site header, white on lilac, measures 3.2 to 1 where 4.5 is needed.
  • Several large decorative headings in teal, mint and sky blue measure between 1.7 and 2.9 to 1 where 3 is needed.
  • A number of buttons: the pink form submit button at 3.6, a teal outline button at 3.1, and a blue and an orange button on the home page at 2.6 and 2.3, all where 4.5 is needed.
  • The gold anniversary panel on the home page. Mint green on gold measures 1.2 to 1, which is the weakest pairing on the site.
  • White text on yellow panels, on the Summer page header and on a testimonial quote, at 1.6 and 1.8 to 1.
  • The day filter on the Classes page, white on cyan, at 2.8 to 1 where 4.5 is needed.

These are the school's brand colours. In our August 2026 review we corrected every one that could be corrected without changing how the brand looks, including the LOGIN button, the member area purple, the cyan section headings and the plum buttons. The ones listed above cannot be fixed by a small adjustment, so they need a design decision rather than a quiet change. That decision is with the school now.

Video captions

The welcome video on our home page does not have captions. It plays muted, it can be paused, and you can turn the sound on yourself. Captions are on our list.

Keyboard and screen reader gaps

  • On the Workshops page on a phone, one row of cards scrolls sideways and cannot currently be scrolled using only a keyboard.
  • On the Summer page, four cards are clickable boxes that also contain a link inside them. Screen readers announce this confusingly.
  • The frequently asked questions accordion uses a combination of accessibility attributes that is not technically valid. It still opens and closes correctly with a keyboard.
  • The next and previous arrows on the booking calendar contain an icon that is exposed to screen readers without a description. The buttons around them are correctly labelled, so the function is still announced.
  • Heading levels skip a step on most pages, because a heading in the site footer is set to the wrong level. Screen reader users who navigate by heading will notice the gap.
  • On phones, the small cookie settings button is smaller than the 24 by 24 pixel minimum. Everything else we measured on phones meets it.

Newer parts of the site

The member area and the booking pages are the newest parts of this website. They have been through the same automated checks as everything else and are included in the results above, but they have had less real world use, so we expect to find more there. We will re-check them after launch.

How we tested

Our August 2026 review used automated tools: axe-core, plus our own checks that measure the actual colours painted on screen rather than only the colours written in the code. We ran them over 22 pages at a desktop width and a phone width, and we checked keyboard focus, form labels, page structure and motion settings on each.

What we have not done. We have not commissioned an independent accessibility audit, and we have not run a formal review with a screen reader user. Automated tools catch a lot, but they do not catch everything, and we do not want to imply a level of assurance we have not paid for. An independent review is something we intend to arrange once the member area and booking have settled.

What we are doing about it

  • The brand colour contrast question has been put to the school with the exact measurements and the options, so it can be decided properly rather than left.
  • The keyboard, heading level and accordion items above are small fixes and are queued for the first update after launch.
  • Captions for the welcome video are being arranged.
  • We review this statement at least every six months, and after any significant change to the site.
  • Anything a visitor reports to us goes to the front of that queue.

Tell us about a problem

If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us. You do not need to know why it is broken or what the standard says. Describing what happened is enough, and it is genuinely useful.

We aim to reply within five business days. If it helps, tell us what device and browser you were using, and what you were trying to do. If you would like a reply in a different format, say so and we will use it.

Standards we work to

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA is the standard we measure against and the one referenced throughout this page.
  • AODA, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, applies to us as a Canadian organisation with students in Ontario.

We have students and instructors outside Canada. We have not formally assessed this site against Section 508 in the United States or EN 301 549 in Europe, so we are not claiming conformance with either. The work we do for WCAG 2.1 AA covers much of the same ground.

If you hit an accessibility problem while reading this very page, that is exactly the kind of thing we want to hear about. Please email info@leblancschool.com and we will fix it.
